Untitled
Crisp sighs and sucrose gulps Have me checking in on her Steady breaths too
Head and uterus cut open for her to pour out
Liquid weaves, timeless sniffles, and doubts of self-soothing append me
Whimpers and brown smoldering eyes Subsume me Winters and possible bright sons Abuse me
Mercury pads on her chest to soothe Thoughts of blaming those who infected gentle birth, bruise
Our tension and skin meshed and sunk As one is carved into two
Editor’s note: Alexandra is a dear friend who recently gave birth to a beautiful daughter. This has been a confusing and dangerous time for everyone, but especially new mothers. Despite going through so much, she was inspired to write this incredible poem. Thank you for sharing it with the world!
